Freyberg High School student Sarah Hughes has placed a set of shelves set up a community pantry on Fitzroy St, near Memorial Park, in Palmerston North.
People with produce or preserves to spare are encouraged to leave them in the larder, and those who are struggling can call on it when they need to.
Sarah, 17, was inspired by the P?taka Kai movement, a nationwide scattering of community pantries.
